Saturday 18th June 2011

Spent a few hours reading today and looking at different photographs, mainly from a book called ‘20th Century Photography’.  Having read in articles and listening to other photographers talk about Henri Cartier-Bresson, I concentrated on his photographs among others. He attended Cambridge University, a City where I spend a fair amount of time taking photographs and Cartier-Bresson travelled consistently during his career. He was one of the founder members of Magnum and his most often published photograph was Sunday on the banks of the Marne’, epitomising the idylls of the Sunday picnic. My favourite from the book is ‘Rue Mouffetard, Paris’, a street scene showing a boy holding two bottles of wine, with a cheeky smile.
